One hundred twelve people die in a clothing factory fire

Maj. Mohammad Mahbub, the fire department operations director, declared that besides the 100 people that died in the actual fire another 12 people were badly injured after they tried to escape the fire and jumped out of the building. Unfortunately these people later died in the hospital.

The search for victims continues and as it does more and more victims are uncovered. According to the fire department the garment factory located just outside Bangladesh’s capital should have had at least one emergency exit that lead directly outside the building. Although firefighters managed to rescue many workers that took shelter on the roof of the building the situation would have been a lot better if not for the poorly thought fire escape plan.

According to authorities many such factories lack proper safety measures.
