At least seven students were killed in a knife attack in China


The attack was one of the deadliest rampages in the country in recent years. The suspect is in the police custody. He is a 28-year-old man surnamed Zhao. The knife-wielding man attacked the students near a secondary school in Mizhi County in Shaanxi province. Reports suggest the victims are middle school children, aged 12 to 15. Violent crime is rare in China compared with many other countries. However several fatal knife attacks occurred in recent years.

The criminal is in custody

Sociologists have blamed a lack of support for the mentally ill and a dysfunctional legal system in which people who feel they’ve been treated unfairly or have suffered injustice have few avenues to seek redress. In this case, the Mizhi county government said Zhao had studied at the school, where he had been bullied. In January 2017, a man armed with a kitchen knife stabbed and wounded 11 children at a kindergarten in China’s southern Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.The country executed three men in March 2015 after they were found guilty of a savage knife attack at Kunming station, where 29 people were hacked to death and more than 100 others wounded.
