At the time of the explosion, there were at least 100 workers working in the sugar factory. The injured have been admitted at the civil hospital in Gopalganj where their condition is said to be critical. “The condition of all the 9 workers who have been brought to the hospital is extremely serious. We have referred three of them to Patna”, said Shashi Kant Mishra. It is believed that the initial cause of the explosion of the boiler was the overheating. The police have begun investigation into the incident.
Scene of explosion at the Indian sugar factory
They have arrested the owner of the sugar mill. The incident brings back memories of the November 1 blast at Rae Bareli, one of the worst industrial disasters in the country. A report has found that “violation of safety norms” and the “tearing hurry” shown in commissioning a power unit were key reasons behind the NTPC power plant explosion as it was supposed to be in this case.
