Accident during a Cantopop concert at Hong Kong Coliseum


Two dancers have been injured on Thursday at a Cantopop concert in Hong Kong after a massive video screen suspended above the stage fell on to performers below in the middle of the show. The concert was held at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Kowloon. The falling screen appeared to directly hit one dancer on the head and body, before toppling over on to another performer. The two male dancers were sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a conscious state. one of the dancers was in a “serious condition.” He was suspected of suffering a spinal cord injury. Three other female audience members were also reported as injured, police said. More than a dozen performers were on the stage at the rime of the accident.Following the incident, the concert was halted and audience members were asked to leave the venue.


An online petition about the safety issues of the Mirror concerts was launched and received over 13,000 signatures from fans. Hong Kong’s leader has ordered authorities to investigate. Culture Secretary Kevin Yeung said shows at the venue were suspended until its stage structure was deemed safe.None of the 12 members of Mirror were hurt in the accident at Hong Kong’s Coliseum, next to Victoria Harbour. Video clips of the event flooded social media platforms. The Hong Kong Red Cross started a hotline for affected people to call in for help.
