Seven soldiers killed in a bus accident in India


Seven soldiers were killed in India when a vehicle carrying 26 skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge near Shyok river in Ladakh on Friday. The bus fell to a depth of around 50-60 feet. All others were injured and evacuated to a field hospital in Partapur. In the evening, the Air Force moved the injured soldiers to the Army Command Hospital at Chandimandir in Haryana’s Panchkula district, said an Army statement. It also said that dedicated efforts were being made to ensure that the best medical care is provided to the injured.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences to the families of the seven killed. “Anguished by the bus accident in Ladakh in which we have lost our brave army personnel,” he said in a tweet. Senior Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi also offered his condolences. Actors Swara Bhasker and Sonu Sood on Friday also condoled the death of Indian Army soldiers. President Ramnath Kovind shared in a tweet, “Saddened to know that an unfortunate road accident in Ladakh has claimed the lives of some of our brave soldiers. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.” Road accidents are frequent in India because poor road condition in some areas.
