A Myanmar military plane was lost with up to 122 people on board


Soldiers, family members and aircraft staff were on board of the Chinese-made Y-8-200F transport plane. Among the passengers were 15 children, 58 adults and 35 soldiers and officers. The plane lost contact 29 minutes after take-off.  It was flying at 18,000 feet over the Andaman Sea, about 70 kilometers west of the town of Dawei. The navy and air force mobilized ships and planes to search in the area near Myike Air Base. Firefighters, medics, emergency and welfare officials arrived in the proximity of the area were the naval search was performed. The plane was bought in March 2016 and had a total of 809 flying hours. The Shaanxi Y-8 is a medium size medium range transport aircraft produced by Shaanxi Aircraft based on the Soviet Antonov An-12.     It’s equipped with four turboprop engines.
