They remembered a slogan used by former IS spokesman Abu Mohammad al-Adnani, who was killed in Syria last year. It was a suicide attack. One of the suspects blew himself up inside the parliament building. Many others were armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles. Gunfire could be heard in the area. Some of them were shooting from the fourth floor of the parliament building down at people in the streets. Shops in the area were closed. All entrance and exit gates at parliament were also closed. All four attackers were killed. They were dressed as women. In a separate incident a suicide attack occurred at the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini in southern Tehran. One of the attackers was killed by security guards and a woman was arrested.
At least 12 people were killed and dozens wounded in the attacks. Security forces had arrested another “terrorist team” planning a third attack. Residents of the Iranian capital have lived in peace until now. Gun ownership is heavily controlled in Iran.
