Dozens killed in a bus accident in Philippines

The bus from northern Isabela province was on its way to Ilocos Sur, a tobacco and rice growing region also in the country’s mountainous north, when it crashed shortly before noon. This was one of the country’s deadliest vehicular accidents in years but accidents frequently occur because  passenger buses are poorly maintained and many roads have inadequate safety. Even the Senate in this country was concerned about the “alarming” and “disturbing” number of vehicular accidents in the country with the police recording more than 10,000 incidents in the first four months of 2016. Stricter regulations on road safety, and the inclusion of road courtesy and discipline in the Philippine basic education program are expected.
