All bodies have been recovered. The State Administration of Work Safety in China ordered an investigation into the blast, “adding that those responsible must be strictly punished.” Local officials in Chongqing also ordered smaller mines to shut down temporarily pending safety inspections. The cause of the explosion is under investigation China’s mining industry has long been among the world’s deadliest and this accident was a big one. The State Administration of Work Safety announced  that “those responsible must be strictly punished.” 598 people died in mining accidents last year. At this time China is the world’s largest producer and consumer of coal. However there is a plan to shutter more than 1,000 outdated mines as part of a broader plan to reduce overproduction.
