At least 24 newborn babies burned in a fire at Yarmouk hospital in Baghdad

“After a fire broke out at one of the maternity wards at the Yarmouk Hospital in Baghdad, an Oxygen capsule detonated at the ward, as a result the babies got burned and died,” said the Iraqi health ministry in a statement. Some 29 women  and seven other children were rescued and transferred to another hospital. It took three hours to put out the blaze. It’s supposed the fire “might have started due to electrical failures.” “A committee has been formed to investigate the incident, and so far we don’t know the reasons of the incident,” Dr. Ahmed al-Hadari, a spokesman for the Health Ministry, announced at a news conference on Wednesday.“We have good medical competence and good doctors, but there are problems and defects in the state administration,” Ahmed Saadawi, a prominent writer said.
