At least 24 injured by explosion on a Taiwan commuter train

Investigators discovered a six-to-eight-inch “broken metal tube stuffed with explosive material inside a black backpack.” in his 40s was seen by a witness walking into the train and leaving a “black, long-shaped object.” The blast occurred moments later. Premier Lin Chuan has ordered government agencies to form an ad hoc team to investigate the explosion and to help the victims get the best medical attention.

The Ministry of Transportation and Conmmunications said early Friday moorning that it has asked related authorities to tighten security measures on the nation’s transportation networks, inncluding railway, and highway systems and at airports and seaports. However, the Office of Homeland Security said that there has been no information to confirm the explosion was a terrorist attack. Investigations into the explosion were continuing.
