He believed the grenade had been deactivated and pulled the pin on the grenade after the judge had asked him how the device could be detonated. Constable Liaquat Ali was injured by the blast. Court assistant Shoaib Ahmed was also hurt by shrapnel wounds to his hand and head, while the judge fell off his chair. The explosion prompted police and paramilitary forces to surround the court, fearing a terrorist attack. After the blast, all hearings in the terror-related case were suspended for the day. Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sial told reporters that it was standard procedure to neutralise any explosives before bringing them into court. The grenade was among weapons and explosives recovered from a suspect against which a case had been filed in the ATC for illegal possession of explosives.
