Rescue workers had used infrared sensors, metal detectors and fiber-optic cables in their search. 207 people had been rescued but 117 were still beneath the rubble. 92 survivors were sent to hospitals. It’s supposed that many of the captive people may still be alive. However, the lack of food and water meant that the buried victims’ chances for survival are rapidly diminishing. Hundreds of volunteers handed out supplies such as blankets, bottled water and simple meals, at the scene. Tainan’s government said the building had not been listed as a dangerous structure. The extended Lunar New Year holiday officially started Monday, but celebrations were subdued. Eight earthquakes occurred this month and 74 in the past year, in Taiwan.
