It was stimated that 1.4 million people each year die prematurely because of pollution in China, according to the atmospheric chemist Jos Lelieveld of Germany’s Max Planck Institute. Vehicle emissions, coal-fired power plants, construction and factory work are incriminated as the principal pollution factors in the country. China still depends on coal for more than 60 percent of its power.
