Getting ready for a papal visit to Manila


Unfortunately one volunteer accompanying the statue died of a heart attack. Other 986 people were treated for cuts, bruises and dizziness which occurred during the event. They were helped by Philippine’s Red Cross workers. In fact, this was a repetition before the papal visit next week. At least 20 field hospitals will be established in Manila. Officials and church leaders expect millions will show up for the Jan. 15-19 papal visit. It’s believed that the Black Nazarene have been brought from Mexico to Manila on a galleon in 1606 by Spanish missionaries and the ship caught fire. It’s believed that the statue showed mystical powers. Filipino devotees fought to kiss the cross.
