“A mob attacked a Christian couple after accusing them of desecration of the Holy Quran and later burnt their bodies at a brick kiln where they worked,” local police station official Bin-Yameen told AFP. The mob beat the couple to death. The victims, Shama Bibi and Shehzad Masih, were a married couple. They were bonded laborers at a brick factory in the village. The owner of the factory accused them of desecrating Quran after they had a dispute about money. “Some people, including the accountant and caretaker at the brick factory, had accused [the couple] of desecrating the Quran,”
After the accusation spread in the village, a large group of villagers arrived at the factory and beat the couple to death. Kasur District Police Chief Jawad Qamar said. Punjab. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a three-member committee to fast track the investigation of the killings.The investigation is ongoing. Many people in Lahore organized protests after the crime.
