Nepal’s government has been heavily criticized for not doing enough for the Sherpas in the wake of last week’s disaster, the deadliest ever on the mountain.
A number of expedition companies have already canceled their climbs in such uncertain conditions. Without the help of the Sherpas it would be nearly impossible for climbers to scale Everest. The Sherpas haul tons of gear up the mountain and create miles (kilometers) of lines of fixed ropes. Some of the climbers will lost money paid for the ascension and it’s about $75,000 or more.
“It is just impossible for many of us to continue climbing while there are three of our friends buried in the snow,” said Dorje Sherpa, one of the experimented guides.
