According to a police statement, a bomb went off when prayers left the Ali Bin Abi Talib mosque in the Baghdad’s western Shurta district. Seconds later, a second bomb exploded further down the street. The two bombings killed 5 people and wounded 15. A gunman opened fire the same day on a security checkpoint 40 miles from Baghdad, killing two police officers and wounding two. Another two persons were killed and five were wounded later Friday, when a bomb exploded in a commercial street in the northern city of Mosul.
No claim of responsibility was registered for all those attacks of the past two days. However, it’s supposed that this is a terrorist tactic of al-Qaida’s local branch to thwart the Shiite-led government’s effort to maintain security.
