From now the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue an alert for a tsunami. Four people were killed in a fish market that collapsed in Cebu. The total number of dead victims is 20. Another 33 people have been injured. The earthquake destroyed many buildings, including the old stone Church of San Pedro, from the 17th century, in the town Loboc. Modern buildings, a hospital and a university were also damaged or destroyed. Even the disaster risk reduction management office was affected. Power lines and phone networks were down and communication was difficult. The earthquake was followed by at least four aftershocks measuring more than 5,0 in magnitude.
Cebu was among the Philippines’ most popular tourist destination.
