Malaysian court lets off relatives and parents who suffocated a two-year-old with fines only

The shocking conclusion was that the neither the parents nor the other relatives deserve jail time as the court let them all off just with fines. During testimony they eventually admitted their guilt but argued that they did not intend to actually kill the baby but only to crush the evil spirits out of her body.

The eight people, who originally pleaded not guilty but only later changed their plea, believe that this is what consumed the two-year-old baby girl. A cousin was fined 5000 ringgit while the grandmother, uncle, parents and aunt were fined 10000 ringgit each. They could have all received jail time of up to 10 years but instead the Malaysian court decided to fine them for negligence and let them off.
