Torrential rains over the past week are responsible for the high death toll and for 14 other people who are still missing. The society of meteorology from China issued a code level blue alert warning for the coming days. While color level blue is the lowest alert level in China’s color code for alerts the storms predicted to come are expected to be quite strong.
The National Meteorological Center advised all Southern China residents to be cautious and aware of the storms that are expected to come. This is not the first time intense periods of rain and heavy storms caused such flooding and damage.
According to a NASA report heavy rains were responsible for creating an identical situation back in 2007. The largest risk here is given by the possibility of having landslides. These are often caused by heavy rain and while the technology to predict them already exists it is rather expensive to use it.
