K. P. Raghuvanshi, the Police commissioner, explained that the company which built the apartment building paid the two workers to bribe municipality officials and the Police. The lack of safety inspections and poor construction practices lead to an accident that was just waiting to happen. The nine people who were arrested face harsh charges: causing death by negligence and homicide.
They will all face a lot of jail time if found guilty. Most of the 74 people who died in the building collapse were workers and their families. Having 18 women and 30 children die is a really tragedy. A similar collapse happened in Delhi during 2010 when 69 people were killed.
