Strong Earthquake jolts Taiwan, 1 Killed and over 80 injured

In accordance to the Central Weather Bureau, the earthquake took place at 10.03 a.m. Taiwan time and the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.1 in Richter scale. The presence of the quake was felt all over the island. Operation of a section of high-speed trains was halted for inspection of the damage. Buildings also experienced swaying the capital city of Taiwan, Taipei.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.0 on the Richter scale.  The depth of the earthquake was measured as 9 miles.

According to officials, one government worker was injured in a government office near the earthquake’s epicenter in Nantou County. The injury was caused by the falling of a ceiling. Cumulatively, a minimum of 20 people got injured as a result of the quake. The injuries were caused mostly by fallen objects. According to the Chen Min-hui, there have been cases of few minor cracks on the building walls, but no harm has been done to the structures.

Reports suggest that, at least 80 people have injured and 1 killed in the after-effect of the earthquake.
