Pistorius spent one year in the hospital wing of Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Pretoria. He is currently serving the remainder of his five year manslaughter sentence under house arrest and he stays at his uncle’s home in Pretoria. “The media has generated hatred against Oscar,” his supporters say. They even gathered inside the courtroom and prayed for the athlete before the proceedings. Tokelo Africa, the president of the South African Prisoner’s Unemployed Political Party‚ had traveled from Bloemfontein to sustain Pistorius. He said that “we all make mistakes” and that South Africa should give its “golden boy a chance”. Pistorius had always denied intentionally killing Steenkamp, his girlfriend, in his Pretoria home in the early hours of 14 February 2013. It is expected that Judge Thokozile Masipa who sentenced his initial trial will be the judge who hands down the new sentence in June.
