The anti-gay attitude in Uganda has a history and the first bill was introduced in 2009. It included a death penalty for aggravated circumstances. This changed to the life in prison, being applied in the situations when one person is infected with HIV and when minors are involved.
Attitudes against homosexuality are prevalent in Uganda, where a study from the last year found that 96 percent of the population does not accept homosexuality. Same sex relationships are currently illegal in many African countries.
