Explosion in northern Mali, town of Kidal

Tuareg rebel group who is mainly in control of Kidal declared to the press the following: "We don't know too much about what has happened but we don't think anyone was there at the time of the explosion".

Now, a security perimeter was set around the scene of the explosion and members of the U.N. peace-keeping mission together with French forces are guarding the zone and investigating what happened. 

The latest attack of a similar magnitude happened on Saturday when seven people were wounded and two were killed from an explosion. This time suicide bombers were responsible for the attack as they blew up their vehicle near a military camp. Director-general of UNESCO, Irina Bokova was amongst the people who condemned the attack especially since the attack also struck one of UNESCO World Heritage sites: he famous Djingareyber Mosque.

He declared: "UNESCO is determined more than ever to pursue the work of rehabilitating the cultural heritage of Mali and safeguarding its ancient manuscripts"
