Dog food recall because lethal drug was found in food cans

Consuming high levels of pentobarbital can cause coma and death,” FDA explained in a statement. The low levels found were unlikely to pose a health risk to pets but is an abnormal situation and violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The actual recall of unconformed products was initiated by the J.M. Smucker Company

The dog food produced by the J.M. Smucker Company includes brands such as Gravy Train, Kibbles ‘N Bits, and Skippy. The problem was traced to a single supplier and a single ingredient used at one manufacturing plant. “Above all, we are a company that loves pets and understand the responsibility we have in providing high quality food for the pets our consumers love,” the pet food producer declared. Customers who purchased the product could call with any concerns or for a refund or replacement product, the company said. Any pet owners who worry their dog ate the contaminated food and might be sick should consult their veterinarians.
