This doesn’t come as a total surprise because Marissa Mayer was already considering giving all Yahoo employees either an Android or iOS mobile device for quite some time.
The Yahoo program called “Yahoo! Smart Phones, Smart Fun!” will offer each employee the chance to choose from one of the following mobile phones: Samsung Galaxy S3, Nokia Lumia 920, iPhone 5, HTC EVO 4G LTE or HTC One X. Also, besides paying for the smart phone Yahoo plans to pay each employee’s phone bill.
Yahoo’s new program will boost morale of all employees. But Yahoo declared to the press this was not their original goal. Yahoo wanted to make sure all its employees have a powerful smart phone similar to what its users have. All the smart phones and phone bills will cost Yahoo a couple of million dollars. This is because the smart phones offered by the big Mail giant are very new and thus still expensive.
For example, for an iPhone 5 the price without contract is still very high and is expected to drop soon. For other phones prices aren’t available yet as the phones were just announced to be released.
