In February this year Microsoft announced that Windows 8 Consumer Preview would soon be available. Microsoft also posted a guide for the new Windows that present many details about the fresh new operating system.
Now Microsoft comes and details the Windows 8 Upgrade plans. If you already own Windows 7, Windows Vista or even Windows XP then you will be able to pay $40 for a license upgrade for Windows 8. After payment you will be redirected to download the Windows update installer from Microsoft’s servers.
Backward compatibility is not Microsoft’s strong point. If you do the update from Windows XP then you will only be able to keep your personal files. Only an update from Windows 7 to Windows 8 will keep your existing operating system settings, your existing installed applications and last but not least your personal files.
