Hacking group claims responsibility for BBC cyber-attack


On Thursday both the iPlayer and the BBC web-pages were overwhelmed with an increase in web traffic. When reached for comment BBC explained that they can’t verify or prove the hacker group claims. The type of attack used was distributed denial of service. The result was to limit access to the site for almost three hours, as million of users were locked out of the BBC websites with HTTP error code 500 – internal error.

New World News group, going by the Twitter handle @NewWorldHacking, is regularly launching DDoS attacks against various different websites it believes to be criminal and leading to terrorist acts. After the websites are taken down the group posts about it on their Twitter page with hash-tag “tangodown” or “takenddown”.
