Details regarding the foiled terror plot from Italy were not provided. It is well known that one of ISIS’s most powerful tools at their disposal is their social media strategy. This allows the terror group to communicate with sympathisers across the world. Anonymous has declared war on ISIS via a video which was posted on YouTube just days after the Paris attacks. The following translated message was provided: “Anonymous from all over the world will hunt you down. You should know that we will find you and we will not let you go. We will launch the biggest operation ever against you. Expect massive cyber attacks. War is declared. Get prepared. The French people are stronger than you and will come out of this atrocity even stronger”.
Hacktivist group Anonymous fights on at least two fronts. On one side they publish and update a list of Twitter accounts they claim spread propaganda in support of ISIS. This way authorities find out what ISIS sympathisers are up to. On the other side, Anonymous is launching massive cyber attacks that target ISIS websites. The purpose is to either steal valuable information and leak it online or to bring the sites down in order to slow the ISIS movement.
