Windows XP end of life might mean a financial disaster for banks

If you are still using Windows XP then you have all the reasons in the world to Migrate to Windows 7 or 8. But many personal computer users have long since migrated from XP. This is not the same situation as for ATM's though. A quick statistic reveals that 95% of all ATMs still use Windows XP. But banks are not the only ones with problems. Many industries have various equipments that use Windows XP (for example: some top of the line Oscilloscopes use Windows XP)

For banks the Windows XP problem is a big one. Security should be a top priority and unfortunately many of the ATMs that will be soon outdated in SW do not meet the minimum requirements for having Windows 7 or 8 installed. Some might require minor to major HW updates while others (among the really old ones) will end up being junked or sold into the aftermarket.
