A toilet seat–based cardiovascular monitoring system, for a better health

It is a  porcelain throne with many sensors measuring vitals in the hope of catching early warning signs of heart failure. And this, yes, could save lives. „The toilet seat–based cardiovascular monitoring system has the potential [to] fill a gap in patient monitoring by capturing trend data that has been previously unattainable,” explained the engineers behind the project. At present, the seat just exists as a prototype nut the hope is big to have it manufactured and sold to people. Every person should have it in the house.

The creators don’t stop here. „In future in-home studies, algorithms will be developed to identify and reject periods of urination and defecation through classification of motion artifacts and the physiologic shifts associated with this change in state,” they declared. Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is a private doctoral university within the town of Henrietta in the Rochester, New York metropolitan area. It is most widely known for its fine arts, computing, engineering, and imaging science programs. The school is also a member of the Association of Independent Technological Universities.
