The robot initially received good appreciation but now it’s considered too noisy to be used. the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) explained that soldiers would constantly risk giving away their position, if they were accompanied by Google’s robotic dog. There are no “future experiments or upgrades planned.” The program received a $42 million funding. Another robot project, called “Spot,” was not advised because it can carry only 40 pounds. The “Alpha Robot Dogs” project was however the first step to prepare some autonomous, unmanned weapons which is considered to be built and used in the future like in the SF stories. Boston Dynamics is in the good position to implement the know-how they already have if at a moment it will be asked.
