Like on conventional message boards, you can set moderators, pin posts, set age restrictions, type out some ground rules for posting, and boot bad members. The app was developed as part of Facebook’s Creative Labs project. Rooms will let users create a unique identity separate from their Facebook account. Facebook may share information about Room users within the companies and services operated on their own. Rooms are around various topics, all of which requiring an invite link to enter.

Users will access the Rooms using QR codes. They can take photos of QR codes with their smartphone, the codes may be provided by the app itself or by users’ friends, or anywhere else on the Web. “One of the magical things about the early days of the web was connecting to people who you would never encounter otherwise in your daily life,” Facebook said in a statement Thursday.
