Robotics Unlimited created the six-legged OutRunner robot, one of the fasted electronic devices of the world. It can travel up to 20 miles per hour on level ground and the batteries are active for two full hours. This robot can travel over hills and rough terrain.
At this time, direction of the craft is carried out by humans, using a remotely-controlled system. Probably this device will have a lot of applications. For the instant, OutRunner is not yet available for sale to the general public, but developers hope to make the robot available soon. Interesting solutions were applied. „OutRunner robots are biologically-inspired... By having a center of mass lower than the leg axis of rotation, OutRunner robots exploit a buoyancy effect, making them inherently stable and eliminating the need for expensive sensors and complex control algorithms," his creators explained. More interesting, the legs on the OutRunner are able to store kinetic energy. For the moment, this project has only public sustenability, raising funds for donations. More than 175 people appreciated his utility contributing to help developers.
