The Romanian Simona Halep won the Wimbledon final

The Romanian Simona Halep, 27, needed just 55 minutes to complete a masterful performance to win the Wimbledon finals 6-2, 6-2 over Serena Williams.

"She played out of her mind, it was a little bit deer in the headlights for me," Williams said. Halep said was her best match ever in the post-match interview. Halep won her first Grand Slam last year at the French Open and adds the Venus Rosewater Dish to her trophy case with a match where she committed just three unforced errors, compared to 25 by the seven-time Wimbledon champion Williams. For Serena Williams, it was another chance to claim a record 24th Grand Slam title that she was unable to win, Simona Halep is the first Romanian woman to win the Wimbledon singles title.


"Well, I had nerves, my stomach was not very well before the match, but I knew there was to time for emotions," Halep declared. Halep said her mother told here when she was a young girl that she would have to reach the Wimbledon final one day to truly make it in tennis. „So to my mom, thanks. Thanks to my parents actually.”
