The defending champion will be playing against or Sara Errani in the final of French Open 2013. The semi-final match between Sharapova and Errani was affected by a rain delay. Nevertheless, Sharapova powered through with 12 aces to defeat 3rd seeded Victoria Azarenaka 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

The high volume noisy match between the Russian girl Sharapova and Belarusian girl Azarenka went to the 3rd set after Sharapova won the first set with 91prve wins. The second set was convincingly won by Azarenka. The second set was followed by a rain delay causing the 3rd set to start off late. In the final set, Sharapova came back strong winning it by 6-4. The 3rd set win was never a comfortable one for Sharapova as she lost 4 match points, threw in back-to-back double faults on the 6th deuce. After a while, Sharapova was able to break the shackles, and get a proper serve done on her 2nd chance. If Sharapova wins the French Open this year, then she will become the first to do so after Justine Henin who was able to retain the title for 2 consecutive years.
