A two-day heatwave has led to matches at Melbourne Park being played in soaring temperatures, which peaked on Friday at 40.2C (104F) when France’s Alizé Cornet needed treatment after lying down on the court in her defeat by Elise Mertens.

Bethanie Mattek-Sands, 32, suffered a major right knee injury playing tennis at Wimbledon Thursday in the third set of her second-round match with Sorana Cirstea. Se fell to the grass. She cried, down on the turf: ‘Sorana, help me! Sorana help me! Sorana, help me!’

Former Wimbledon champion Jana Novotna has died aged 49

1998 Wimbledon champion Jana Novotna has died at the age of 49, Sunday, after a long battle with cancer. She beat Nathalie Tauziat in the 1998 final, to then become the oldest first-time Grand Slam champion in the Open era.The WTA made the announcement on Monday.

Andy Murray will play Wimbledon after injury scare

British professional tennis player Andy Murray announced that he will be able to defend the Wimbledon title. Medics declared him fit to play after struggling with a hip injury in recent weeks. Centre Court will begin on Monday, when Murray will play against "lucky loser" Alexander Bublik.
