Messi scored a goal against Real Betis and surpassed Mueller’s record. In the very same match, he equaled Mueller’s record after he scored his first goal of the night in the 16th minute of the match. Messi picked the ball from a central position and through an angled shot hit the ball to the bottom right corner of the goal post.
Nine minutes later, Messi received the ball from Andres Iniesta’s clever back heel and shot from a similar position within the penalty area.
Messi is all set to win the 4th successive World Player Award. During 2012, Messi scored 12 goals for his national side Argentina and 74 goals for his club side Barcelona. Of the club goals, Messi scored 56 goals in La Liga, 13 gaols in the UEFA Champions League, 3 goals in the King’s Cup and 2 goals in the Spanish Super Cup. Messi is still left with three more matches to play this year. Two of those are La Liga games and one a King’s Cup game.
