The footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger retires from international competitions

“My thanks go to the fans, the team, the DFB [German Football Association], the coaches and the Germany national team. I was able to run out 120 times for my country and experience moments which were indescribably beautiful and successful,” Schweinsteiger added. He plays now as a midfielder for English club Manchester United. He spent 13 seasons at Bayern Munich, playing in exactly 500 matches across all competitions and scoring 68 goals. This month, he married with Serbian tennis player Ana Ivanovic. Schweinsteiger was awarded as footballer of the year in Germany in 2013. In the same year he received the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award.
