In spite of Watson’s absence, Australia defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 201-run against an injury stricken Sri Lanka. The win means Australia has now an unassailable lead of 2-0 against the Sri Lanka.
Glenn Maxwell comes in to fill in the spot for Shane Watson. Australian skipper Michael Clarke is also doubtful of playing the next match for a hamstring strain.The injury was sustained by Clarke in the first test match held in Hobart. With that being said, Clarke was cleared to play the Boxing Day match.
For the New Year’s test, seamer Mitchell Starc will be a sure feature. He was controversially dropped in the second test in spite of picking up five wickets in Hobart test.
