On the eve of the third and final test against the Proteas in Perth, Ricky Ponting announced that he would retire at the end of the match. It would put an end to a comprehensive cricketing career of one of the Cricketing greats ever.
Ponting chose the famous WACA ground to his career and it’s totally befitting considering 17 ears back Ponting began his career on the same ground. Ricky Ponting started his career at the WACA back in 1995 at the age of 20 and now he is retiring at the same ground after 17 long successful years.
As Ponting conveyed the message to rest of the team members; member of the Aussie team wept for the man who’s been an integral part of the Aussie for more than 17 years. The decision to retire comes after Ponting had a dismal performance at the test arena in the past 12 months.
Ponting’s departure from the world cricket is certainly going to create a deep void. Another modern cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar is also hitting the headlines with retirement talks. Only time will say if the cricketing world can recover from retirement of these two legends.
