Pakistan announces squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, Shahid Afridi Dropped

The selectors have also issued warning to wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal and former skipper Shoaib Malik. They are warned by saying that they are running out of opportunities offered to them even after constant failures.

Shahid Afridi is dropped from the team for his poor run with the ball and a dismal showing with the bat. The selectors stated that, Afridi’s primary role in the team is as a key bowler, and he has failed to presume that role. In the recently concluded South African tour, Afridi bowled 37 overs without taking a single scalp.

Umar Akmal has also failed to impress the selectors with his poor batting form. Pakistani bowling attack is led by Saeed Ajmal with Junaid Khan spearheading the pace attack. Junaid Khan will be supported by Wahab Riaz, Mohammand Irfan and uncapped Asad Ali.

Prior to the start of the ICC Champions Trophy, Pakistan will compete with Scotland and Ireland. Misbah-ul-Haq will lead the team.
