Because the recently discovered Earth-sized planet is 6.5 million km away from the star next door a year passes in just 3.2 days. This is because the exoplanet’s orbit is 25 times smaller than Earth’s is.

The exoplanet can’t be called Earth-Like because the temperature is close to 1205 Celsius degrees. European scientists from Chile’s La Silla Observatory say that the planet’s surface is most likely made of molten lava. Although the Alpha Centauri system was often the subject of S.F. stories this newly discovered planet is highly unlikely to harbor any kind of life.

Scientists are not discouraged. SETI even started scanning the skies around Alpha Centauri in the hope that there might be some radio signals that were missed before.
