The American President had a phone conversation with astronauts from the International Space Station

“This is a very special day in the glorious history of American space flight,” Trump said. The first woman to command the space station twice, Whitson began her latest stint on Nov. 19, 2016. The 57-year-old biochemist has also performed eight spacewalks, more than any other woman, Whitson told the president that “it’s a very exciting time to be at NASA,” citing plans for a Mars mission and promoting “STEM” education programs devoted to science, technology, education, and math. Last month, Trump signed new legislation adding human exploration of Mars to NASA’s mission. The law authorizes $19.5 billion in spending for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for the budget year that began Oct. 1. Trump said that NASA “has inspired millions and millions of Americans to imagine distant worlds and a better future right here on earth.”
