The project’s team hopes to raise at least $1 million through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter by Dec. 21, 2016. The SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute and the University of Massachusetts Lowell have signed on to collaborate on the project. The scientists hope to find “another Earth”. “This is a new kind of space initiative ,to achieve cutting-edge science for low cost in just a few years ,  and it empowers us all to participate in this moment of human discovery,” Jon Morse, mission executive for Project Blue, said in a statement. The telescope will have the size of a refrigerator. It will be launched into space for two years, from 2019 to 2022. This telescope would find planets by observing them directly. The cost will be between $10 million and $50 million. It was unusual to launch a crowdfunding campaign for a project in space…until now. Project Blue, which will obtain images of planets around the double suns of Alpha Centauri wants to rise the money for its space telescope. Alpha Centauri, along with Proxima Centauri, is the nearest stellar neighbor to Earth’s solar system.
