SpaceX CEO says rocket did not explode but instead experienced a ‘fast fire’

Thus according to Elon Musk the Cape Canaveral mishap was not an explosion but a “fast fire” even though few days ago everybody was talking about how the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket blew up on the launch pad. Nearby constructions were shacked and the sky was filled with smoke. The difference between an explosion and what could be a “fast fire” is in the speed of combustion.

What made SpaceX and everybody else have more reasons to worry was that all this happened just two days before SpaceX’s liftoff with an Israeli satellite was planned. After the accident Elon’s twitter message was meant to calm the spirits: “Loss of Falcon vehicle today during propellant fill operation. Originated around upper stage oxygen tank. Cause still unknown. More soon”.
