A series of test images were taken in order to calibrate the robot’s camera. NASA published high-resolution color images both processed and raw on their site www.nasa.gov

The photos present the details of the Mars environment. One of the photos was modified to simulate Earth’s lighting conditions. This puts things in a different light and helps in analyzing Mars terrain. Scientists will study these photos in order to learn more about the red planet. Curiosity made photos all around its landing site.

Images show the base of the 4800 meters high mountain which is located inside the Gale Crater. The rocks have different shapes and Curiosity has a lot of work ahead. Its mission will last two years and among other things there are a lot of rocks that will be studied. Click the images listed below to expand them (credit for images: NASA/JPL-Caltech/MSSS)
