The project called Breakthrough Initiatives will use astronomic research resources located in West Virginia, Australia and in other parts of the world that had not previously been extensively used for the purpose. The project will, scheduled to last one decade, will focus on listening the space on possible radio conversations taking place between advanced life forms light years beyond the solar. “It’s time to commit to finding the answer to search for life beyond Earth. We are alive, we are intelligent, we must know” Hawking said explaining the motivation of this action. In other words, the most advanced scientists hope and believe there’s other life in the universe. Just for a comparison, the project will use thousands of hours every year on two major radiotelescopes; previously, only about 24 to 36 hours of telescope per year was used in the search for alien life.
